Caregivers spend their days tending to the needs of others, often neglecting their own needs. The holiday season brings added stress to everybody but can be especially stressful for caregivers. It is easy to get caught up in everyone else’s needs, neglecting your own, but maintaining your own sanity is essential for surviving the holiday season. These quick tips can help ensure a moment or two of relaxation!
Take a 30-minute nap! You’ve earned it! And the benefits to your body and mind are amazing. Your body gets the chance to recharge itself for a full uninterrupted 30 minutes allowing your body and mind to release negative toxins.
Unplug!
2 very important reasons to take a break from the phones/tablets/electronics:
- Digital eye strain and blurred vision, which can cause headaches.
- Neck problems, also known as "text neck," resulting from looking down for too long.
Take time away from the electronics and soak up your surroundings; the people, the memories, the emotions.
Breath!
Meditation is a great way to reduce stress levels and boost your immunity. Some dedicate time every day to meditate while others do not have the resources to do this. At the very least, take time to sit in a quiet room listening to and focusing on your breathing. Find peace of mind to help yourself to recharge, mentally and emotionally.
